Washington’s Rotary Club heard a report on the Mid State Corridor Project on Wednesday.
Dubois and Spencer Counties have organized a Regional Development Authority to promote the building of a new highway through Spencer and Dubois Counties. It would connect with Interstate 69 at a location yet to be determined. The group is looking at possible connections with I-69 at Petersburg or Washington on the northwest, following US 231 in the center, or taking an eastern route to connect with SR 37 at Bedford and joining I-69 in the Bloomington area. Jason DuPont of the Lochmueller Group, an infrastructure consulting group, says the type of road is still to be determined.
An environmental impact statement is scheduled to be finalized by October of 2020. The proposed routes will also be studied for economic impact. With a perfect time-line, it would be at least 7 to 8 years before any construction begins. There is also a possibility to decide not to build at all.
