The year 2019 will be remembered as an excessively wet year in our part of the nation. It was one of the wettest on record which resulted in a prolonged duration of flooding along rivers that lasted into summer. The wet pattern let up in September which resulted in one of the driest Septembers on record.
The fall season of 2019 will be remembered as one with wild temperature swings and a lack of comfortable fall like temps. The time from late August to early October experienced what’s known as a Flash Drought. There were numerous places that only received a 10th of an inch of rain or less through the period in Southwest Indiana, Southeast Illinois and Western Kentucky.
The fall season in the Evansville area broke the record for the fewest number days with high temps in the 60s or 70s in a fall season. That’s according to records dating back to 1897.
We then had record cold to start November and a rare early snow on Veteran’s Day in the southern part of our listening area.
