The Daviess County Commissioners on Tuesday gave their approval to go ahead with a letter a support to INDOT in pursuing improvements to Sportsman Road through the next round of state Community Crossings Grants. If awarded, the county could receive $1 million toward the cost of upgrading the road in the Glendale area. The county’s match would be $333,000 and County Highway Supervisor Phil Cornelius said that would still leave them $400,000 short of completing the entire planned project. Officials are confident that the county will receive the grant funds from Community Crossings.
The vote was 2 to 1 to send the letter of support of the project. Commissioner Tom McCracken voted against it…
Commissioner Nathan Gabhart said the project is worth doing. He alluded to quality of life enhancements and felt the widening and overlaying of the road and other improvements would open up that area to more people who would want to build and live there…
Commissioner Michael Taylor agreed…
According to the state’s website, ( https://www.in.gov/indot/2390.htm) the grant application for the project is due February 7th.
