The former Chief Deputy Prosecutor of Knox County has been suspended for 90 days from practicing law.
The Indiana Lawyer.com (theindianalawyer.com) reports that the suspension of Joseph Burton of Farmersburg is the result of abusing his prosecutorial authority as part of a retaliation campaign against a detective who discovered his sexual relationship with a criminal defendant.. Burton served as Knox County Chief Deputy Prosecutor before retiring in April of 2018. He’s been suspended for 90 days with automatic reinstatement immediately after.
The decision was handed down by the Indiana Supreme Court which concluded Burton violated Professional Conduct Rules. The court also stated that current Knox County Prosecutor Dirk Carnahan is facing.a disciplinary complaint filed against him, which remains pending in a separate matter.
