Mayor to pick up grant money this week

Washington Mayor Dave Rhoads heads to Indianapolis later this week to pick up some grant money.
On January 9th it was announced that the city had received $700,000 to go toward the construction of a phosphorus removal plant at the city’s wastewater treatment center. The plant’s construction has been mandated by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

As the mayor said, the money comes from OCRA which is the state Office of Community and Rural Affairs.  The $700,000 will go toward the $1.8 million project to replace the wastewater treatment plant maintenance building.   It will house the newly required chemical feed system along with new chemical storage and pumps.  The city applied for the cash through the Community Development Block Grant Fund.  A total of 12.3 million was awarded across the state to various communities for different projects.
