The Barr Reeve Girls Basketball program will have just a slightly different look this season as they take to the hardwood. Bret Graber has announced he will step down to be an assistant and Mark Holt will now handle the varsity coaching duties. Graber said personal family health issues would keep him from devoting his full attention to the team. Graber has built numbers back up in his three years at the helm and will still serve as an assistant to his longtime coaching partner. The Vikings lost just two seniors from last year’s team who finished the second half of the season at 9 and 3.
Despite an uptick in recent cases, the new executive director of the IHSAA says they have no plans to shut down fall sports at this time. Commissioner Paul Neidig says shutting things down at this time is not an option. He went on to say we have learned a lot about it, and we now must manage. Neidig also stated that the IHSAA would not look more than two weeks ahead at a time when making any decisions and will continue to revisit it as needed. He said that our state is trying to open back up and the IHSAA would stay in step with that at this time. The IHSAA started phase two of their return to play plan on Monday.
Due to the latest health alert from the Greene County Health Department ALL Middle School & High School Athletics at Eastern Greene & ALL Extra Curricular Activities including Band are Shut down immediately until August 3rd.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced Tuesday that attendance at next month’s Indianapolis 500 will be limited to approximately 25 percent, down from the previously announced capacity of 50 percent. Additionally, face masks will be required at all times from all attendees and ticket sales will be stopped Friday. The 104th running of the Indy 500 is scheduled for August 23rd. The speedway will fulfill all ticket requests from existing customers, and those customers can expect to receive their tickets in early August.
NASCAR announced Tuesday that it will not have practice or qualifying for any of the top three series for the rest of the season. The ban on practice and qualifying began when NASCAR came back from the coronavirus shutdown in May. NASCAR’s senior vice president of competition Scott Miller said the current format has worked well in addressing several challenges during the return to racing and that most importantly, NASCAR has seen competitive racing week-to-week.
The Cincinnati Reds came back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the Tigers 9-7 in their exhibition game yesterday at home. Cincinnati concludes its Summer Camp schedule with a game tonight against the Tigers, before opening the regular season with Detroit.
