It’s a golfer’s paradise around the area for the next couple weeks as several benefit golf scrambles are set.  The annual Daviess County Chamber of Commerce outing is set for Thursday at Country Oaks in Montgomery.  The Travis Burkhart Foundation scramble is set for Saturday with tee time at 8am, registration at 7am at Country Oaks.  The Barr Reeve Boys Basketball Scramble is Sunday August 9th, lunch at 11am, with shot gun start at 1pm, and the Daviess Community Hospital Foundation Scramble will be Thursday, August 13th.  All four outings will be at Country Oaks in Montgomery, contact the pro shop for all the details.
The Washington Hatchet Boys Basketball team held their awards banquet last night with social distancing at the Hatchet House.  This year’s team compiled the best record since 2011, and also notched the school’s first sectional win since 2011 before the tournament was halted due to coronavirus.  Congratulations to all the players, and best wishes to the senior class of 2020 for your future endeavors.
The Indiana Pacers came back from a 13-point deficit to defeat the Dallas Mavericks 118-111 in a scrimmage Sunday afternoon. T.J. Warren led Indiana with 20 points, while Malcolm Brogdon contributed 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Victor Oladipo poured in 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting from 3-point range and Myles Turner scored 15 points in his first scrimmage. The Pacers are 2-0 in scrimmages and will take on the San Antonio Spurs Tuesday before restarting the season Saturday against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Racer.com reported Sunday that the IndyCar Grand Prix at Portland International Raceway scheduled for September 13th has been canceled and the series will make race weekends at Mid-Ohio and Gateway into doubleheaders. The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will now host a race both August 8th and August 9th before the series returns to Indianapolis to begin preparation for the Indianapolis 500 August 23rd. After the “500,” IndyCar will race back-to-back days August 29th and 30th at the World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway just outside of St. Louis.
The Chicago Cubs used three home runs to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 9-1 Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field. On the south side of Chicago, the Minnesota Twins blew out the White Sox 14-2 to win the rubber match of a three-game series. Elsewhere, the Detroit Tigers beat the Reds 3-2 in Cincinnati, while the Pirates defeated the Cardinals 5-1. Cleveland easily won over Kansas City 9-2.
The Indianapolis Colts announced Friday that due to COVID-19, attendance at Lucas Oil Stadium will be limited to approximately 25 percent capacity this season. With the limited crowd size because of local and state guidelines, the Colts have automatically deferred 2020 season ticket holders seats to the 2021 season with all payments credited for 2021. The team is offering two half season plans for 2020 with season ticket holders receiving priority access.
