The Washington Lady Hatchet Golf Team kicked off the season last night against Pike Central.  Washington fell short to the Lady Chargers as Pike Central carded a 234, while Washington finished with 253.  Channey Clark finished with a 56 and finished second on the day, Kenli Barber finished with a 59 and placed in a third place tie.
The Indianapolis Colts secondary took a hit Wednesday, when it was announced cornerback Marvel Tell and safety Rolan Milligan have decided to opt out of the 2020 season due to health and safety concerns over COVID-19. They join backup linebacker Skai Moore in deciding to sit out the season. If the players are considered high risk, they will receive a 350 thousand dollar stipend, but they will get 150 thousand dollars if not considered high risk. The deadline for players to opt out is Thursday at 4 p.m.
The Indiana Pacers try to make it four wins in a row Thursday afternoon when they take on the Phoenix Suns from the NBA’s bubble in Orlando. T.J. Warren goes against his former team and will try to continue his torrid pace. He has scored 119 points in three games, tying Jermaine O’Neal for the NBA franchise record for most points scored in a three-game span. The Pacers and Suns tipoff at 4 p.m. Eastern.
The Big Ten released a new football schedule for this fall that includes 10 conference games for each school. New conference commissioner Kevin Warren told BTN Wednesday morning “There’s no guarantee we’ll have fall sports or a football season, but we’re doing everything we possibly can.” IU’s first six opponents were bowl teams last year, and Hoosiers coach Tom Allen told BTN the new schedule is “a very obvious challenge, but I see it as a great opportunity.” Purdue gets off to a difficult start as well, starting at Michigan September 5th, followed by home games against Iowa and Ohio State.
The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago White Sox 1-0 Wednesday night on the south side of Chicago to end a White Sox six-game winning streak. Dallas Keuchel took the loss despite striking out eight Brewers and scattering five hits over seven innings. The game’s lone run came in the third inning on an Eric Sogard RBI single that scored Mark Mathias. The White Sox dropped to 7-5 and the teams conclude a two-game set Thursday night at Guaranteed Rate Field.
The Cleveland Indians defeated the Cincinnati Reds 2-0 Wednesday night at Progressive Field. Mike Clevinger threw five and two thirds scoreless frames as the Indians pitching staff gave up just three hits on the night. Brad Hand struck out two in the ninth and recorded his fourth save of the season. Cesar Hernandez and Jose Ramirez each drove in a run in the fifth inning, which was all the scoring the Tribe needed. Cleveland was without manager Terry Francona for the fourth straight game, as he continues to suffer from a gastrointestinal issue he has dealt with for months.
The Chicago Cubs have won six games in a row after a 6-1 win over the Kansas City Royals Wednesday night. Chicago is 10-2 and already has built up a four and a half game lead in the National League Central. Yu Darvish struck out four and gave up one run over seven innings to record his second win of the season. Javier Baez went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs, including an insurance RBI single in the eighth inning. Chicago entered the eighth with 2-1 lead before adding two runs in each the eighth and ninth innings.
