City Council Discusses Tax Abatement Renewals & Highway 50 Project

Last Night at Washington’s City Council agreed to vacate the right of way of a never developed alley, appropriated over $400,000 in grant money to the U.S 50 project, and approved the continuation of tax abatement’s for five industries in Washington.
Mayor David Rhoads said the local industries, Eagle Railcar, Alliance Barrier Films, the Indiana Municipal Power Agency, Nasco Industries, and Indiana Safety Company all had positive reports in tough economic times.

The Council also passed an ordinance vacating the right of way of an undeveloped alley in Kensler’s Addition ending at the railroad tracks.  The action was requested by TrueScripts to allow them to expand their parking lot.
There was also good news on the old U.S. 50 Reconstruction project.  The Council introduced a new ordinance appropriating grant money from the state to the road project.  Mayor Rhoads explains.

The Mayor also gave an update on the progress on the rebuild of Washington’s major east-west corridor.

The Council members also heard from local resident Michael Allen.  Allen presented the Council with a request that the City pass a new ordinance that would require all auxiliary buildings, such as garages and storage sheds, have the same external covering as the main building on each piece of property in the City.   The Council agreed to discuss Allen’s request.
