Daviess County Commissioners Discuss Annex, Montgomery Overhead Bridge, & More

The Daviess County Commissioners heard the last update on the new construction of the Government Center from owners representative Mike Schapker. Schapker, who has been overseeing the project for the County since it’s beginning said the work on the building is in its last phases.  While Schapker will still be finishing up the construction project, Monday’s update marked his last regular appearance before the Commissioners.   At the end of the meeting Commissioners President, Nathan Gabhart, had this to say about Schapker’s service to Daviess County.

In regular business, County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius told the Commissioners that property acquisition for the final phase of the County Road 900 E project is moving along.  However, Cornelius reported that discussions with two or three individuals might have to move to condemnation proceedings to keep the project on schedule.
In talks about funding options for upgrading the Montgomery overhead bridge, financial advisors have told the County that it is permissible for the County to load funds to the Town of Montgomery for the town’s match for the proposed project.  The Commissioners gave the Highway Department permission to begin preliminary planning for the project.  However, the Town of Montgomery still needs to execute an inter-local agreement for the Highway Department to proceed.
The Commissioners also approved a new schedule of fees for the Health Department, gave approval for the Health Department to apply for additional grant money through Cares Act funding, and gave approval for the use of Cares Act funds to purchase a body scanner for the jail pending state approval for the use of the funds.   Sheriff Gary Allison said the body scanner would reduce the need for hands on pat-downs of prisoners and would help detect contraband items.
