The Washington Hatchets will scrimmage North Posey in High School Football tomorrow morning at Hatchet Hollow. Kick off is set for 11am. Remember you must have a ticket to enter the scrimmage, and tickets will not be sold at the gate.
The Washington Girls Golf match with Bedford at Country Oaks was postponed due to lightning last night. Only a couple of holes were played before the match was halted. The Girls Golf team will try again Monday at Country Oaks against Barr Reeve and North Daviess.
The Hatchet Boys Soccer JV team will be hosting Pike Central at the Sports Complex tomorrow. Kick off is set for 10am. The Girls Varsity Soccer team will host South Spencer following the Boys JV game around 11:30am.
The Barr Reeve Middle School varsity soccer team kicks off their season with a double header Saturday morning in Petersburg. First against Pike Central at 9 am followed by Tell City at 10:30.
The Indiana Pacers take on the Miami Heat Friday afternoon in the final seeding game before the playoffs begin. Indiana and Miami will match up in the first round of the playoffs, and Friday’s game will determine the fourth and fifth seeds in the Eastern Conference. The Heat beat the Pacers 114-92 Monday, and Miami is 3-0 against Indiana this season. The first round will begin Tuesday afternoon and continue with Game 2 Thursday. The Pacers will be without T.J. Warren Friday, along with fellow starters Victor Oladipo and Myles Turner.
Practice continued Thursday for next Sunday’s Indianapolis 500. The speed charts were topped by IndyCar points leader Scott Dixon with a speed of 226.102 miles per hour. The only incident came late in the day when two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso tagged the turn four wall. The Arrow McLaren SP driver was released from the infield care center and cleared to drive. The boost will be turned up for Fast Friday, as teams prepare for qualifying Saturday and Sunday. Positions 10 through 33 will be set Saturday, and then Sunday the fastest nine from Saturday will vie for the pole position. The Indianapolis 500 is set for Sunday, August 23rd. Purdue football coach Jeff Brohm released a detailed plan that would allow Big Ten schools to play football in the spring. His proposal calls for a total of 18 games in 2021, starting with an eight game spring season starting in late February. That season would run through mid-April with a two-week postseason in early-to-mid May. The fall campaign would begin the first Saturday of October, and only one padded practice per week would be allowed for the entirety of 2021. Brohm’s comprehensive plan calls for additional rest periods that do not typically exist between seasons.
Yu Darvish struck out 11 batters over seven one-hit innings, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 Thursday night at Wrigley Field. Darvish took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Justin Smoak hit a solo home run, but that was the only hit and run Darvish allowed, as he ran his record to 3-1. The Cubs improved to 13-3, their best start since 1907 and the best record in the major leagues.
The Pittsburgh Pirates scored nine runs in the first two innings, and went on to beat the Cincinnati Reds 9-6 Thursday night at Great American Ballpark. Adam Frazier and Colin Moran each hit solo home runs off of Reds starter Anthony DeSclafani in the first inning, and the Pirates chased DeSclafani from the game after scoring seven more runs in the second. Nick Senzel drove in four runs as Cincinnati fought back to within three runs, but could not get any closer.
