Washington Community Schools has been awarded $91,000 from the Governor’s Cares Act Grant.   The grant is from funds given to the State of Indiana by the Federal Cares Act to help schools improve the availability of technological access for all students during the pandemic.  Washington’s assistant superintendent, Kevin Frank, told the Board that approximately $22,000 of the money will be used to complete the one-to-one program and provide I-pad s for kindergarten students in case the schools are forced to return to virtual education.  A little less than $70,000 will be used in conjunction with Washington Catholic School to provide opportunities for the most needy families who do not have internet access at home.
Frank said Washington is looking at outfitting a Smart Bus which would target low access areas.  Frank also said the school system is looking at providing “my-fi” technology to families. This technology has a security component which assures the technology is accessed for academics and not for movies and entertainment.
