Mona June (Arthur) Small, 81, went home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 4, 2020 with her family by her side at her home in Laurel Hill, Florida. She was born in Washington, IN, to Clyde “Peanut” and Cordia (Miller) Arthur on July 5, 1939. Mona graduated from Washington Catholic High School, then subsequently attended Vincennes University where she earned her nursing degree. Mona was a nurse for over 35 years at Daviess Community Hospital and then was a nurse for a doctor in private practice, both in Washington, Indiana, until her retirement. Her family remembers her as a loving, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was known for her sweet spirit, great sense of humor, and generosity and she loved to dance and play basketball. She never met a stranger and she will be missed by all.
She is survived by her two sons Mark and his wife Ami Elliott of Hudson, FL and Jeffrey “Jeff” Elliott and his fiancee Joan Sickbert of Schnellville, IN; daughter Cheryl “Sherry” and her husband John Vaughn of Laurel Hill, FL; aunt Norma Wetzel of Parker, CO; sister-in-law Patricia “Patty” Arthur of Greenwood, IN; ten grandchildren Travis and Susan Elliott of Washington, Kristen and Jason Nellis of Evansville, Brian and Christy Vaughn of Laurel Hill, FL, Chris and Christy McDermott of Tuscola, TX, Jeremie and Jessica Elliott of Mosehead, FL, Brandon and Trista Elliott of Jasper, Jason and Angela Speakman of Odon and David Speakman of Washington; twenty-six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by several other family members and very close friends.
Mona was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Eddie “Punk” Arthur and Dean Arthur; daughter Cathy (Elliott) Ahlf; grandson Keith Speakman and granddaughter Heidi Speakman.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 9, 2020 at Ed Lee Mortuary North Chapel form 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 11:00 am at Ed Lee Mortuary North Chapel with Mark Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.
