Carolyn Sue Witte

Carolyn Sue Witte, 82, of Vincennes, IN passed away Monday October 5th, 2020 at the Lodge of Wabash.  Carolyn was born November 3rd, 1937 in Vincennes, Knox County, IN the daughter of Julius Lawrence “Duke” Memering and Margaret Lucille Memering (nee Cox).  Carolyn was a 1955 graduate of Lincoln High School and a 1960 graduate of Indiana University School of Nursing which led her into a lifetime of helping others.  Following graduation, she and four classmates moved to Boston, Ma where they worked at the VA hospital and enjoyed living in New England. She then returned to Vincennes where she proceeded to work 40+ years within Dr. Dan Combs Internal Medicine practice in Vincennes retiring in 2002.

Carolyn had a passion for life and had many lifelong friends including several groups that she participated in whether it was playing bridge each month or cards each Monday at Knights of Columbus.  She loved attending IU basketball games in person and watching games on TV with her IU group, the Hoosierettes.  A natural athlete as her love of golf was evident in the hundreds of rounds that she played locally at Vincennes Elks course, Fox Ridge Country Club (having carded her first career hole-in-one in 1995 on the Par 3 Fourth hole) along with the former Bicknell Golf Course.  Of course, on occasion she would gather friends for an excursion down to “the boat” or in later years travel to French Lick to try her luck.  She simply enjoyed her family and many friends as she participated in as many activities as she possibly could.

She was always ready to go out the door with her friends and family on a moments notice.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Kim Black and her husband Lance of Indianapolis, IN with granddaughter Morgan Black of Nashville, TN and grandson Eric Black of Solana Beach, CA along with son Courtney Witte and wife Tarra of Philadelphia, PA.  Also surviving are her sister Janice DiNola and husband Jim of Bradley Beach, NJ and brother Jerry Memering and wife Joyce of Vincennes, IN.  Her several nieces and nephews also survive her as well.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Lodge of the Wabash for all their care, as well as the many friends who helped Carolyn over the last few years.

A drive through visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes with a private graveside to follow.  Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Carolyn Witte.
