The Daviess County Commissioners met on Tuesday for their regular session with a full agenda. Phil Cornelius with the highway department provided updates on the 900 E project. He stated they were still buying right of way, but only had three parcels left. He also went over the nine 2021 Highway bids that will all be reviewed over the coming weeks.
Kellie Streeter was also at the meeting on behalf of the health department. She requested the commissioners approve a request to install a 3×7 piece of glass in the Health Department offices with the use of Cares Act funding. The glass cost about $1,600. She said the glass would help protect employees and the public in light of the recent COVID-19 case surge. The commissioners unanimously approved the request.
While on the topic of COVID-19, President of the Board Nathan Gabhart also wanted to express support of the health department in light of the recent surge.
The commissioners agreed to write a formal letter of support to the Health Department.
In other business, the commissioners approved the Daviess County United Way Campaign, and approved a DCH bond refinancing. The bond would ultimately save over a million dollars in interest. The Commissioners also renewed a Perdue Extension service contract and as well as approved the purchase of 10 new electronic devices for the county. In addition, they approved a new appointment to the Odon Winklepeck Library.
