Covid has reared its ugly head once again knocking out a chance for the Washington Hatchet Football team to compete in the IHSAA 3A Football sectional championship at Sullivan this Friday night for the first time since 2009. Washington High School Principal Steve Petersen sent a press release yesterday alerting the community that the Hatchets will not be participating Friday due to contact tracing for Covid 19. WHS Athletic Director Larry Cochren says the game will end in a no-contest and Sullivan will be declared sectional champions moving on in the tournament. The Hatchets end a giant turn-around season as sectional runners up and a final record of 5 and 6. Once again, Friday night’s Hatchet Football game at Sullivan has now been cancelled. Cochren did tell us at this point no other sports have been affected and the first Lady Hatchet Basketball game of the season is still on for Saturday night at North Knox.
