COVID-19 impacts 2020 jail bookings & EMS revenue

Daviess County Sheriff Gary Allison provided the 2020 year end report at yesterday’s Board of Commissioners meeting. He stated that bookings were down by about 200 people last year due to COVID-19. The Department was suspending arrests of non-violent offenders due to the uncertainty of COVID-19 in March and April. Sheriff Allison did say that calls to the department and handgun permits increased heavily.
The 2020 EMS report revealed that calls for Ambulances were also down last year. The decline was the result of people hesitating to make the call out of fear of contracting COVID-19. It also revealed that most of the responses came from the Washington Base. EMS also experienced a loss of about $450,000 dollars last year due to COVID-19. The revenue is expected to return to or close to normal this year.
