The Daviess County Commissioners met on Tuesday for their regular scheduled meeting. During the meeting the commissioners renewed a workman’s comp policy for County Police Officers as well as an accident and sickness policy for reserve officers. They also approved the draw of $5,000 from a COVID relief grant to a local business.
The Commissioners also heard from Daviess County Chamber of Commerce Director Joe Morris. Morris was proposing that the county increase the innkeeper’s tax from 5% to 9%. Morris said the tax increase would help fund more community projects including a possible convention center for the county. He received full support from the commissioners, but will have to secure support from the county council before moving to the next step.
In addition, The Commissioners reappointed Natalie Smith to the Westgate Authority. They accepted resignations letters from Darla Norris and Diana Snyder who also served on the board. Kent Parisian was selected to replace Darla Norris and Joe Morris was selected to replace Diana Snyder.
At the end of the meeting Commissioner Arnold asked Daviess County Attorney Grant Swartzentruber to review the policy on meeting locations for the commissioners.
