The Daviess County Sheriff Office is warning the public about several scams. They say they continue to receive reports about the same scams in the area. One of the scams involves an individual who will identify themselves as an officer with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office or even as a Federal Officer. They will tell you they have a warrant for your arrest and demand you pay the entire bond, or a portion of it, over the phone. The Sheriff’s Office reminds residents that they, nor the federal government, will call and tell you to do this.
Others scams may involve receiving a check in the mail. The letter with the check may ask you to cash it and send back a portion of the money. Officers say do not cash the check. Simply throw it away. These individuals can sound extremely convincing. Police remind residents to avoid giving out any personal information. They say just hang up the phone and block the number.
