The Barr Reeve Vikings took on Indianapolis Tindley on Saturday at the Hatchet House in the Boys Basketball 1A Semi-State. Barr Reeve walked away with the victory over Indianapolis 72-25. The Vikings lead the scoring by 8 points at the half and went on to dominate the second outscoring Indianapolis 48-9. Kurt Hopf lead the Vikings with 20 points. Washington Indoor Percussion preformed in the state finals on Saturday in Avon. They finished as Bronze Mentalists. Congratulations and great work from WAMW.
The Indiana Pacers defeated the Miami Heat 109-106 in overtime to take two in a row over the defending Eastern Conference champs. The Heat scored the final six points of regulation to force overtime, and then scored the first five points of the extra session and looked to be in control. Pacers guard Justin Holiday drained two consecutive 3-pointers to give the Pacers a lead they would not relinquish. Indiana improved to 19-22 with its first two game winning streak since February 13th. The Blue and Gold have a quick turnaround and will wrap up a three-game road trip at Milwaukee tonight at 9 p.m.
Indiana’s women’s basketball team begins the NCAA Tournament this afternoon against Virginia Commonwealth University. The Hoosiers earned a number four seed and will take on VCU at 2 p.m. in San Antonio, where the entire women’s NCAA tourney is being held.
Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney passed Kyle Larson with eight laps to go and went on to win in the NASCAR Cup Series at the Atlanta Motor Speedway Sunday. Blaney became the sixth different winner in six Cup races so far this season. Larson dominated the first two stages and looked to be the first repeat victor of the season, as he led 269 of 325 laps. The win was Blaney’s fifth career Cup victory and his first on a 1.5 mile track. The Cup Series heads to Bristol Motor Speedway next week for a dirt race on the half-mile bull ring. It will be the first dirt race for NASCAR’s top series since 1970.
The Indiana high school boys basketball State Finals are set after Saturday’s semi-state round. The four championship games will take place Saturday, April 3rd at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, as the games were delayed by one week due to the NCAA Tournament. In class 1A, Kouts will take on Barr Reeve. The class 2A championship pits defending champion Fort Wayne Blackhawk against Parke Heritage. Silver Creek also looks to defend its crown in 3A against Leo. The state’s largest class sees a battle of Metropolitan Conference teams as reigning champion Carmel will square off with Lawrence North.
