The Southwest Regional Logistics Council has released a nearly 60 page proposal on improving transportation in 18 counties in Southwest Indiana.
The council is made up of high level logistics executives in air, rail, truck, water, infrastructure, manufacturing, and warehouse/distribution.. The proposal is being presented to the governor and legislature in an effort to inform them what the council believes is needed in the area of transportation improvement for existing business and new economic development as well for safety and traffic flow needs.
The council suggested about 3 billion dollars worth of improvements in the 18 county region. According to the Washington Times Herald http://www.washtimesherald.com several ideas were proposed for Daviess County including:
- A 3.4 million dollar access road on Daviess County Road 200-East to the industrial park…
- A 9.3 million dollar road through the park to 200-North linking up with I69.
- Turning US into a limited access four lane highway from Washington’s East Side to 231 bypassing Montgomery and Cannelburg.
- Building a better bridge on SR 257 over the East Fork of the White River.
- Constructing new rail ties on the Indiana Railroad Company line out of Odon through Elnora to the north.
- Constructing a new access to the Crane Naval Weapons Center off of U.S. 231 and an upgrade to 231 that would extend from Jasper to I-69 in Greene County.
Council members did not mention much about funding the projects It would be up to the state to move them forward possibly with local matches or private industry putting up some money. The work would be decades in the making.
