John Wesley Ricks, 80, passed away on the afternoon of May 28, 2021, at his home, after a long bout with cancer.
John was born on September 22, 1940, in Indianapolis, Indiana to John E. and Marjorie (Leonard) Ricks.
John attended school in Washington, Indiana and graduated high school in 1958. He then attended the University of Evansville. John had worked at Western & Southern Life Insurance Company and Prestolite, but his happy place was farming. He farmed for Hal & Kent Williams, and Alan Scott of Oaktown, Indiana for the past thirty plus years.
John is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Goodrid Ricks; children, Beth Blome (Greg) of Vincennes, Indiana, Greg Ricks of Vincennes, Indiana, and Lorie Hunley (Bill) of West Frankfort, Illinois; stepchildren, Brenda Parsons, Kathleen Fowler and Rick Greene all of Washington, Indiana; grandchildren, Ashley Holbert, Adam Jones, Alec Jones, Brayton Greene, Lindsey Upton, Justin Fowler, Joshua Fowler, Janston Fowler, Hannah Woodruff, Shawn Fowler, Shaylee Fowler; and seven great grandchildren.
Also surviving are sister Judy Miller (Clyde), Marla Sparks, and Jodie Lucas. John was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Janice Dognaux.
Visitation for John will take place on Saturday, June 5th, 2021, from 10:00AM – 12:00PM at Goodwin – Sievers Funeral Home, 2020 State Street. Washington, Indiana 47501. A service will follow beginning at 12:00PM with Rev. Gordon Tilley officiating. John will be buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, IN at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Washington Carnegie Library, 300 W. Main St. Washington, Indiana, or the Free Fishing Day for Kids in Washington – (checks can be made out to the Southern Indiana Bass Club, C/O Mark Hoevel, 5 Brentwood Dr., Washington, Indiana 47501).
