13 boys golf teams begin sectional play tomorrow morning at the Country Club of Old Vincennes. All four Daviess and Knox County Schools will play along with Pike Central, Gibson Southern, Princeton, Tecumseh, and Wood Memorial. Tee time is set for 9am tomorrow morning.
Good luck to Loogootee Baseball and Softball this Saturday! Softball competes at the North Daviess semi-state Saturday morning against West Washington at 11am. Baseball plays in the Regional at Lanesville against Tecumseh at 9:30am on Saturday.
Javy Baez homered and Anthony Rizzo drove in a pair, as the Chicago Cubs completed a three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres with a 6-1 victory Wednesday at Wrigley Field. Baez has connected on three home runs in the past three days, and the Cubs have won nine out of 10. Rizzo’s two-run double broke a 1-all tie in the fifth inning as part of a three-hit day. The Los Angeles Dodgers scored 11 runs in the first inning and went on to beat the Cardinals 14-3 at Dodger Stadium. The Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians were postponed due to rain. The teams will make the game up September 23rd as part of a doubleheader. The Phillies and Reds were also rained out. Philly and Cincinnati will make the game up June 28th at Great American Ballpark.
The Indianapolis Colts announced their preseason schedule, which begins Sunday, August 15th at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Carolina Panthers. That will be the Colts’ lone preseason home game. Indy’s preseason schedule continues Saturday, August 21st in Minnesota against the Vikings. The three-game slate will wrap up Friday, August 27th against the Lions in Detroit. The preseason schedule is down from four games to three in 2021 because of the NFL’s new 17-game regular season schedule. The games begin to count September 12th at home against the Seattle Seahawks.
Duke‘s Mike Krzyzewski, who is the winningest coach in Division I men’s basketball history and has led the Blue Devils to five national championships in his 41 seasons, will retire after the 2021-22 season, the university announced Wednesday. Duke associate head coach Jon Scheyer, who played for Krzyzewski from 2006 to 2010, has been named Krzyzewski’s successor. Scheyer will spend the 2021-22 season as coach-in-waiting and will take over after that.
