Trooper investigated after allegedly striking K-9 officer

Indiana State Police is investigating one of their officers.
29-year-old ISP Trooper Dustan Rubenacker received a court summons yesterday from the Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office.
Rubenacker in charged with Striking a Law Enforcement Animal.
Police say the alleged incident happened back in March during a training exercise.
Rubenacker and his K-9 Odin were participating in an exercise and Odin was not properly focusing on the correct target.
He allegedly used unreasonable discipline toward Odin, which resulted in an injury.
The dog was taken to a veterinarian clinic where he was treated for a serious fracture to his right rear leg.
The K-9 had to have surgery and it is unclear if he will be able to return to work.
Rubenacker is scheduled to appear in the Dubois Circuit Court on July 6 at 10:30 a.m.
He is currently on administrative leave with pay.
An internal investigation is on-going.
