Washington Hatchet Football Summer work-outs and training is underway this week. Coach Joe Morris has announced that there will be a player / parent meeting Thursday at 6pm at the Visitors side of Hatchet Hollow. All parents and players for next school year should attend the meeting.
The Washington Lady Hatchet Basketball team has announced they will be hosting the Bobcat of Daviess County Summer Shoot-out on Thursday June 17th at the Hatchet House, Jr High Gym, and Griffith. The all day tournament will be $5 at the door, kids 18 and under get in free. Teams participating will include Washington, Silver Creek, Mooresville, Franklin, North Harrison, Gibson Southern, Evansville Memorial, and Bedford. It will be a great tournament, June 17th all day in Washington.
The San Diego Padres defeated the Chicago Cubs 9-4 Monday night to open a three-game series at Petco Park. Chicago has now lost four out of five after sweeping the Padres last week at Wrigley Field.
The Cincinnati Reds kick off a series with the Brewers tonight at Great American Ballpark. Live coverage starts at 6:40pm this evening on the General 95.9 / 101.3fm. The St Louis Cardinals begin a series at home tonight with the Cleveland Indians.
Following a sixth place finish in the Indianapolis 500, Santino Ferrucci will compete for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in IndyCar’s doubleheader in Detroit this weekend. Ferrucci will drive the number 45 Honda with sponsorship from grocery store chain Hy-Vee as well as branding by Cheetos. The 23-year-old Connecticut native was the 2019 Indy 500 Rookie of the Year and followed it up with a fourth place finish last year. He left full-time IndyCar competition this season in favor of a part-time schedule in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. The Detroit Grand Prix takes place at Belle Isle Park this weekend with a race on both Saturday and Sunday. Ferrucci finished 19th and 10th at Belle Isle in 2019, the last time IndyCar raced on the island.
