Shortly after sunrise on June 3, 2021, Angie Willis, 64, of Chula Vista, ultimately succumbed to her struggle with cancer. Hence, she began her new and eternal life carried away in the arms of our loving Savior. She was born in Brownsville, Texas, on December 18, 1956, to Luis and Maria Zarazua who, no doubt, while cradling their darling first born, adorned her life with the lovely name of Angelita, which stands for “little angel.” A few months later, the young family became “Hoosiers” when they moved with their infant girl to northern Indiana, just below South Bend.
Angie graduated from Plymouth High School in 1976, and later enrolled at Indiana University where she pursued coursework in Business. There, Angie met Floyd, an out-of-state student, a California resident. The process of their becoming one began with their becoming the best of friends. They recognized their shared and fervent love for Christ, and His Word, before they recognized a fervent love for each other, pointing to marriage. Ultimately in 1986, “Señorita” Zarazua became Mrs. Floyd Imel Willis after he was brought to his knees in a confession of love and adoration. The marriage took place on November 29, 1986, in the San Diego area. The new couple first lived in the City of El Centro situated in the desert of the Imperial Valley, California, where they also started a family. They relocated in the year 2000 to the coastal area of Chula Vista, California, where they lived until the time of her passing.
Angie had an effervescent personality, always affirming, resulting in a sense of personal validation for those whom she met, even after only a brief encounter. Because of her natural love and compassion for people, she was a natural born salesman and worked at a variety of jobs that required this skill. She found and secured many a job through verbal interviews alone. She once held a position related to office equipment sales, but later, she enjoyed the most satisfaction working the floor in retail sales of upscale department stores. Then, for several years, she operated a profitable Mary Kay business earning a variety of rewards in meeting sales goals. Along life’s way, she was proud of other positions, as well. As a bank receptionist, executives promoted her to their administrative center; in a similar role, a medical doctor provided bonuses for her record in securing follow-through in appointment bookings.
She was a faithful and devoted wife and took pride in hearing the title of “Señora”; the occasional reference to her man as “Mr. Willis” would always be heard with obvious affection. She enjoyed their ballroom dancing, the Latin beat, as well as square dancing. As a baptized Christian, and with a faith that grew steadily from the reading of God’s word, she attended church over the years with her husband in the Lutheran Missouri Synod. She enjoyed the Ladies Bible Study group meeting on Fridays at Victory Lutheran Church, Chula Vista. Strong friendships developed there as well as through the Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) International weekly study program for women.
Angie survives with eternal life because she is saved through the blood of Jesus Christ. She is survived in this world by her husband, two children, and three grandchildren. Her daughter, Raquel Vida Willis [Mrs. Garret Steven Roberts]; son, William Floyd Imel Harry Willis; grandchildren, Hunter Isaac Roberts, Serenity Vida Roberts, and Caleb Ewan Roberts. She is also survived by sisters Cecilia [Mrs. Joseph Trevino], Beatrice Zarazua, Margarita [Mrs. Edward Gonzales], Gloria McGhee, Rita Riggins, and Amelia Zarazua.
