The Washington Golf regional at Country Oaks was stopped for lightening but the show went on. Washington finished 6th while Barr Reeve was 8th in the field of 18 teams. Congratulations to both schools on a great run this year. Evansville North claimed the team win, while Brebeuf and Avon rounded out the top three.
Today is the Hatchet boys basketball shoot-out. Some of the best nine teams in SW Indiana will be competing today in the JV and Varsity tournaments. The games will be played at the Hatchet House, Jr High Gym, and Griffith Elementary. Cost for spectators is only $5 dollars. The schedule of all today’s games is available on the WAMW Facebook page.
The Hatchet Football parent meeting scheduled for last night has been rescheduled. The meeting will now be tomorrow morning at 10am on the visitors side of Hatchet Hollow. All parents of high school players are asked to attend.
Sign ups are now underway for the newly formed Washington Youth Football League. Any youngster grades K-6 wanting to play football is urged to sign up. Sign up before mid-July and save $20. Go to play youth football dot com for the registration.
The Indiana-Kentucky All-Star series resumes tonight in Owensboro, Kentucky. The historic high school basketball rivalry was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. Indiana’s teams have a distinct Purdue flavor. The girls squad is led by Miss Basketball and incoming Boilermaker recruit Jayla Smith of Lawrence North. Mr. Basketball Caleb Furst out of Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian and Trey Kaufman-Renn of Silver Creek lead the boys team and will suit up for the Boilermakers next season. The All-Stars will play tonight in Kentucky before the series shifts to the historic Southport Fieldhouse tomorrow. The girls game tips off at 7 p.m. Eastern with the boys to follow at 9.
The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-2 Thursday at Great American Ball Park to take two out of three from the Reds. The Reds begin a weekend series with The Rockies tonight. Live coverage starts at 6:40pm on the General 95.9 / 101.3fm.

The Detroit Tigers hit three home runs and went on to win 8-3 over the Seattle Mariners.
The NTT IndyCar Series returns to action this weekend with a doubleheader in Detroit. The series will race both Saturday and Sunday in the Detroit Grand Prix at Belle Isle Park. IndyCar has had remarkable parity so far this season, with six different winners from five different teams through six races. One team that has not recorded a victory is Team Penske, which considers Detroit a home race of sorts with team and series owner Roger Penske’s ties to the area. Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves will not be racing in an IndyCar this weekend. The four-time “500” winner will compete in five more races later this season for Meyer Shank Racing.
