The Washington School board held their regular meeting last night. The board approved the Back to School plan which will still feature some things from last year. Masks will be optional for students while in school buildings, but will be required on school buses due to federal mandate at this time.
The board also agreed to resume the Wednesday Early Release schedule for the 2021-2022 school year.
In other business the board heard an update from Dr. Roach on the ongoing and upcoming facility updates happening throughout the summer. He noted that the Central Office and Veale Elementary will be getting a new roof. Many improvements are coming to Lena Dunn Elementary, including a new HVAC system and boiler as well as new bleachers, a playground fence relocation, new flooring, and restroom grout & seal work. North Elementary will also see new flooring. Dr. Roach also noted that the Security Camera System will see upgrades in all buildings.
During the meeting it was also noted that Washington High School has been recognized as a Way Distinguished School. To receive this recognition, schools must offer at least three, Project Lead the Way classes. WHS currently has eight of those classes with 25% of students participating in those courses.
