The Cincinnati Reds will return from Major League Baseball’s all-star break by welcoming the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers to Great American Ball Park. Tyler Mahle is on the mound for Cincinnati while the Brewers have yet to announce who will be the starting pitcher. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10. The rest of Major League Baseball begins the second half of the season on Friday as the Minnesota Twins visit the Detroit Tigers for a doubleheader at Comerica Park starting at 2:10. The AL West leading Astros take on the the AL Central leading White Sox at 8:10 and the Cardinals welcome the San Francisco Giants who take the best record in baseball into the second half of the season. At 9:40, the Cubs will take on the Diamondbacks while the Indians are in Oakland to take on the Athletics.
According to a report from the Associated Press, the Indianapolis Colts are one of just four teams in the NFL that remain under 50 percent vaccinated less than two weeks form the start of training camp. Teams on the lower end of the vaccination spectrum could face potential competitive disadvantages as the NFL doesn’t plan to cancel any games this season. As protocols for fully vaccinated players loosen, there are still strict rules in place for those who haven’t yet received a vaccine.
The Triple-A Indianapolis Indians defeated the Omaha Storm Chasers on Thursday by a score of 4-3 in five innings. On a rain-soaked night around central Indiana, the Storm Chasers scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Indians answered right back as Dee Strange-Gordon delivered with an RBI double and TJ Rivera drove in two runs to give the Indians a 4-3 lead. The High-A South Bend Cubs won a pitcher’s dual against Cedar Rapids 2-1 in 10 innings on a walk off single from Josue Huma. Meanhile the Fort Wayne TinCaps were shut out by West Michigan in both games of a Thursday double header.
