Walter Horsting, 76, of Loogootee, passed away at 12:22 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center.
He was born November 13, 1944 in Washington, Indiana to the late Adolph Horsting and Ruth (Mattingly) Mandabach.
Walter married Elsie Hembree on December 6, 1969 and she survives.
Walter was a Vietnam veteran and served in the United States Army for three years. He then joined the Army Reserve 281st Maintenance Unit in Evansville where he served for an additional 20 years. Walter also served in Wisconsin during Operation Desert Storm. He was a member of the American Legion Post 120 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9395.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. And he enjoyed bird watching, NASCAR and spending time with is family. He also enjoyed to watching traffic on the highway.
Walter was preceded in death by two children, David Hill and Joetta Horsting; parents, Adolph Horsting and Ruth Mandabach; siblings, Rita (John) Martin, Jerry (Kay) Horsting, Betty (Mike) Williams and infant Donald Eugene Horsting.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Horsting of Loogootee; children, Tammy Hill of Shoals, Tim Hill of Shoals, Amy (Brent) Fellers of Loogootee and Nina Cook of Loogootee; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bob (Marilyn) Horsting of Shoals, Frank (Theresa) Horsting of Washington, Joyce (Mark) Ashcraft of Vincennes and Patty (Jerry) Melvin of Washington.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2021 at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.
