Washington’s City Council made short work of its agenda last night.
The top item was the long discussed noise ordinance.
The Council passed the ordinance with a 7-0 vote.
The new ordinance sets the noise limit at 80 decibels.
For comparison, 80 decibels is equivalent to the sound made by an air conditioner.
Mayor David Rhoads said the new ordinance gives local police guidelines, but also noted that it remains a work in progress.
Rhoads commented that people just need to respect each other.
In other business, the Council heard an introduction of an ordinance raising the fee to $300 for requesting a special meeting of the Board of Zoning Appeals.
An ordinance changing a job title and description in the utility office was also introduced.
In addition, the Council gave approval to continue tax abatement for six local industries.
Before the Council meeting, Mayor Rhoads swore in Jeff Onken as Washington’s newest firefighter.
