The Washington Boys and Girls Soccer teams grabbed a pair of wins last night. The Hatchet boys evened their record to 1 and 1 with a 3-1 win on the road at Forest Park. The Lady Hatchets opened their season at home against North Posey and claimed a 6-0 shut out win. Aly Wagler had two goals to pace the Hatchet attack.
Washington Catholic boys soccer lost a close one to White River Valley 4-3
The Lady Hatchet Volleyball team fought out a hard five set win on the road at North Knox yesterday. The Hatchet JV won in two. Both teams are 1 and 1 on the year.
The North Davies Volleyball team fell in straight sets last night to Bloomfield 24-26, 9-25, 15-25. The Cougar JV grabbed a victory.

In Girls Golf, Washington finished in the middle of the pack yesterday with Vincennes Lincoln and Pike Central. The Chargers got the win with a 205, Washington 213, and Vincennes finished at 214.

The Washington Country Club Shootout is set to tee off tonight. This year’s Shootout is sponsored by WAMW and Shake Broadcasting and will feature a great line up of talented golfers in two different divisions. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third places in each division. Spectators are welcome. The shootout begins at 5:30pm at the Country Club in Washington.
Joey Votto homered, and the Cincinnati Reds topped the Miami Marlins 6-1 at Great American Ball Park. Votto’s three-run long ball in the bottom of the fourth gave the Reds the lead for good, as Cincinnati snapped a two-game losing streak. Luis Castillo struck out seven Marlins in seven innings to earn the win. Jonathan India and Kyle Farmer added RBI doubles, while Nick Castellanos drove in a run on a single to cap the scoring. The Reds are one game back of San Diego for the second NL Wild Card spot. In St. Louis, the Cardinals doubled up the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4. The Cards had back-to-back homers as part of a five-run fifth inning to avoid the sweep.
The Indianapolis Colts head on the road for Saturday night’s preseason contest against the Minnesota Vikings. Sixth round draft pick Sam Ehlinger is expected to start at quarterback and play one half, and coach Frank Reich has said that most starters will see action. Ehlinger and second-year QB Jacob Eason split practice reps with the starters Thursday in the team’s last practice before heading to Minneapolis. The team has three practices remaining before breaking training camp ahead of next Friday’s preseason finale in Detroit. The Colts and Vikings kick off Saturday night at 8 p.m. Eastern.
