A Heat Advisory will be in effect today from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
According to the National Weather Service, peak afternoon heat index values today through Thursday will be as high as 100 to 105 degrees across much of Indiana.
This can cause heat illness with prolonged exposure which can overtake individuals quickly.
The National Weather Service advises residents to take steps to limit your time outside during the heat of the day this week.
They say dress in light colored clothing, drink plenty of water, and do not forget to check on those especially vulnerable to heat illness, including young children, the elderly, and those with chronic medical conditions, or those without access to air conditioning.
Finally, they say to keep a close watch on pets and ensure they have access to a cool area and plenty of water.
