Friday Sports Report

The Washington Hatchet Volleyball team dropped a conference match last night in 4 to Princeton. 22-25,25-20, 21-25, 22-25.  The JV lost  in 3 sets.  Washington Varsity is now 1-2 on the season and JV 0-3.  The Next match is tomorrow at the Hatchet House, a Double header against South Spencer and Mt. Vernon. Starts around noon
North Daviess grabbed a conference win over Clay City 3-1.  The Cougars will play in the Springs Valley tourney tomorrow.
Barr Reeve lost their first match of the season last night at home to Linton Stockton in straight sets 25-12, 25-20, 25-19.  The Vikings did grab the JV win.

Washington Catholic suffered a pair of losses last night in soccer.  The girls fell to NE Dubois 5-1, while the boys lost to the Jeep’s 4-0.
Washington Hatchet boys soccer rolled past Southridge 8-0 yesterday.
Jasper topped Harrison 2-1
Girls soccer, Mater Dei shut out Vincennes 11-0
Jasper fell to Memorial 9-zip
The Barr-Reeve Tennis team won their match against Vincennes Lincoln 3-2 at Barr-Reeve to go 5-0 on the season
The Lady Hatchets Golf Team shot a 216 and took 4th in a Quad meet with Jasper, Springs Valley, and Barr Reeve. Channey Clark was low score for the Hatchets with a 46. Jasper won with a score of 166, Barr Reeve was second with a score of 197, and Springs Valley was third with a score of 206. Medalist was Elizabeth Ackerman from Jasper with 38.

The Washington Hatchets will host McClean Co Kentucky tomorrow.  Kick off at 7pm at Hatchet Hollow.
 Jonathan India hit a three-run home run to add to his Rookie of the Year résumé, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-1 Thursday afternoon. Reds starter Sonny Gray gave up three hits over six shutout innings as the Reds avoided the three-game sweep. Gray has not allowed a run over the past 13 innings. Cincinnati trails Milwaukee by 8 ½ games in the National League Central, but the Reds are still in position for the final Wild Card spot in the NL with a two game lead over San Diego.
The Pittsburgh Pirates overcame an early 5-0 deficit and used an eight-run seventh inning to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 11-7 at PNC Park.
The Chicago White Sox hit four home runs and beat the Blue Jays 10-7 to split a four-game series in Toronto.
Cleveland had seven players drive in runs and beat the Texas Rangers 10-6.

Purdue coach Jeff Brohm named Jack Plummer as the Boilermakers’ starting quarterback. The redshirt junior started the final three games last year and has nine career starts. Plummer won the job over 2020 opening day starter Aidan O’Connell and Austin Burton, who transferred from UCLA before last season but did not play. The Arizona native threw for 938 yards and eight touchdowns in the abbreviated 2020 season.
