After a decade or more of working on details, a Central Emergency Dispatch for the City of Washington and Daviess County has cleared its last hurdle.
Last night, Washington’s City Council gave unanimous approval to an inter-local agreement with the County.
Prior to the meeting, the Council held a public hearing where Washington City and Township firefighters spoke in favor of the Combined Dispatch Center. Washington Fire Chief Steve Walden said the combined Dispatch Center is long overdue. Washington firefighters Dewayne Murphy and Shawn Gray told the Council about how the current dispatch system created problems and delays. Washington Township Volunteer Fire Chief Tony Wichman says time saved by a combined dispatch is important.
After the council approved the agreement with the County, Washington Mayor Dave Rhoads said he was happy with the City’s decision…
The Mayor also says he expects some problems as the two centers come together, but that he is confident that the committees set up to monitor the combined dispatch can work through them.
