Over a half a dozen police units around the Spencer County area are still searching for four fugitives.
On Thursday, State Police attempted to stop a vehicle on US 231 in Spencer County for a traffic violation. The vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit began. During the pursuit a handgun was thrown out the window and police later backed off out of concern for the safety of other motorists.
Police then found the vehicle abandoned and said it smelled of marijuana. Inside the vehicle was a stolen handgun. Witnesses say they saw four individuals run from the vehicle at which time police determined they were armed and dangerous.
Nearby athletic events were then put on hold due to safety concerns. That included the Washington Hatchet Volleyball game at Heritage Hills where both terms were put in lockdown.
Police continued their search for the fugitives through the night with helicopters, pursuit vehicles, and K9 units from multiple agencies. During the investigation, police pulled over a vehicle with Kentucky plates and arrested Kyra Newsome. Police had probable cause she was there to pick up the fugitives. Police then pulled over another vehicle and arrested the driver, Ronald B. Spencer Rodriguez, and the passenger, identified as Andrew D. Carter. Police had probable cause they were also there to pick up the fugitives.
Police say the wanted suspects are still on the loose and that the individuals arrested had ties to the Spencer County area. They also advise that if you see any suspicious vehicles or activity, dial 911 immediately. The wanted individuals are still believed to be armed and dangerous.
