The Washington Hatchet Boys Soccer team advanced to the sectional semifinals at the Sports Complex last night with a 10 to nothing shut out win over Southridge. Washington will now face Princeton Wednesday night as the Tigers advanced in a thrilling game two over Pike Central. The two teams ended regulation tied at 1-apiece and went to Sudden Death PK shootout. Princeton won the shoot out 4-3 to advance. The Hatchets and Tigers play at 5:30pm on Wednesay, whiile Vincennes LIncoln will face Gibson Southern in game two.
Last night at South Knox in the 1A tournament, White River Valley defeated North Knox 5 to 1. Mitchell topped Vincennes Rivet in game two 3 to 1. Tonight at South Knox, Washington Catholic boys will play South Knox with kick off at 5:30pm, while Lighthouse Christian will face Bloomfield in game two.
In the Girls Soccer 1A Sectional opening round last night, Washington Catholic advanced with a 5 to nothing shut out win over Bloomfield. WC girls will now play South Knox in the semi-finals on Thursday. Tonight at Sullivan, White River Valley will play North Knox, while Sullivan faces Vincennes Rivet in game two.
Tonight in the 2A tournament at Jasper, Princeton will open against the Pike Central Lady Chargers. Washington will face Jasper in the semi-finals at Jasper on Thursday.
The Boys Tennis Regionals are set for tonight at Jasper. North Daviess will play South Knox, while Loogootee faces Jasper.
Girls Volleyball yesterday, Washington grabbed a four set win over Sullivan at the Hatchet House 25-27, 25-15, 25-19, 25-20. Washington is now 7 and 15 with a match up tonight against North Daviess. The Cougars were winners last night over South Knox 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23. North Daviess will host the game with the Hatchets tonight.

Bubba Wallace has made NASCAR history. The racing star became the first Black driver in 58 years, and second ever, to win a NASCAR cup race. He did it at the YellaWood 500 race at Talladega Superspeedway. Bubba now joins Hall-of-Famer Wendell Scott in the history books. The win was not only his first since becoming a full-time NASCAR Cup competitor in 2018, it’s also the first win for co-owner Michael Jordan.
Indiana football coach Tom Allen announced that quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is out indefinitely after suffering a separated throwing shoulder in Saturday’s 24-0 loss to Penn State. Penix’s IU career has been marred by injuries, as torn ACLs ended the 2018 and 2020 seasons, while a shoulder injury cut his 2019 campaign short. Allen said the redshirt junior is week-to-week and that surgery is not necessary at this time. The Hoosiers are off this week before hosting 11th-ranked Michigan State October 16th for Homecoming.
Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich said Monday that the team suffered no injuries in Sunday’s victory over the Miami Dolphins. Reich said wide receiver T.Y. Hilton is inching closer to a return, but there’s no definitive timeline for Hilton to make his season debut. Indianapolis is 1-3 and plays at Baltimore Monday night.
