The IHSAA football sectional draws were held yesterday. In the opening round, Washington will play Edgewood. Vincennes will open against Princeton. Pike Central plays Brown County, and Sullivan will meet Owen Valley in Class 3A.
In Class 1A, North Daviess will face Springs Valley. In 2A, North Knox will square off with South Spencer. The Football sectionals begin October 23rd.
The Washington Boys Soccer team fell to Gibson Southern in the Sectional Championship 3-1 on Saturday at the Sports Complex. Congrats to the Hatchet Boys on a great season from WAMW.
Congrats to both the Barr Reeve girls and boys Cross Country teams who advanced to the Pike Central Regional next week after their finishes at the South Knox Sectional on Saturday. The girls took home a 3rd place finish, while the boys finished 4th.
The Indianapolis Colts return to their former city tonight for a showdown with the Baltimore Ravens. Both enter the game with banged up offensive lines. For the second straight week, Indy will be without both left guard Quenton Nelson and right tackle Braden Smith. Nelson is on injured reserve with an ankle injury, while Smith has already missed three straight games with a foot injury. Baltimore has offensive line issues, as well. Left tackle Ronnie Stanley and guard Tyre Phillips will miss the game, and right tackle Alejandro Villanueva is questionable. The Ravens are favored by a touchdown for Monday night’s 8:15 Eastern kickoff from Baltimore.
The Chicago White Sox rallied from an early 5-1 deficit to defeat the Houston Astros 12-6 in Game 3 of the ALDS. With the win, the White Sox trail the series two games to one, with Game 4 Monday afternoon on the South Side. Chicago fell behind 5-1 in the third, as Kyle Tucker drove in four on a two-run double and a two-run homer. Yasmani Grandal hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to two, followed by a Leury Garcia three-run blast later in the inning to give Chicago the lead. The Sox used four singles and a fielder’s choice to plate three more runs in the fourth. Chicago then scored three times in the eighth to extend the lead, and the bullpen combined for a perfect final five innings.
Kyle Larson continued his dominant 2021 season with a victory in the NASCAR Cup Series at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval. Larson overcame early electrical issues to earn his seventh win of the season and clinch a spot in the round of eight of the NASCAR Playoffs. He passed Denny Hamlin with eight laps to go and held off Tyler Reddick for the victory. The round of eight begins next Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway. Joining Larson in the fight for the championship are Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, Chase Elliott, Brad Keselowski and Martin Truex Jr.
