Shirley Chanley, 79, passed away while at the Daviess Community Hospital, October 13, 2021. She was born in Washington, May 22, 1942, to Paul and Cora Viola (Teisort) Moffett. On May 31, 1958, she married Lewis Melvin Chanley. They made their home together for fifty-seven years until his passing on July 14, 2015.
Shirley was formerly employed as a school cook at Griffith Elementary. She loved to read, write songs, and was a member of the Adorations Gospel Group. She was also a member of the “Beloved Widows” club. Shirley attended the Southwind Wesleyan Church.
Those who miss Shirley and mourn her passing include: her children, Donna (Gary) Chanley Edmiston; Denny Chanley, and a sister, Jane Hayes, all of Washington. Shirley was blessed with two grandchildren: Daniel Chanley of Washington; and Amy (Kevin) Wright of Colorado; and three great-grandchildren.
During her lifetime, Shirley sustained the loss of her parents, Paul and Cora Moffett; her husband, Lewis Chanley; sisters, Juanita Tomson; Lois Moffett; Anna Willliams; and Betty Burton; and brothers, Bill Moffett; Bobby Moffett; Paul Moffett, Jr.; and Steve Moffett.
Visitation for Shirley Chanley is set for Tuesday, October 19, 2021, 10:00 am-1:00 pm, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, North Chapel, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington, Indiana.
Funeral services for Shirley Chanley will immediately follow at 1:00 pm, also at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, North Chapel. Minister Denny Chanley will officiate. Interment will be in the New Veale Creek Cemetery, Washington, Indiana.
