Martin County Sheriff’s Deputies will see a bump in pay thanks to the contribution of a local man and his wife.
According to the Washington Times Herald, Martin County Sheriff Travis Roush had requested a raise for his deputies before the Martin County Council.
Roush said the reason for the pay increase was the investment that Martin County puts on its officers during training.
He stated that after training, many officers leave for a position with more pay.
Current Martin County deputies make just $15.42/hour which is one of the lowest in the state.
After the council voted the original proposal down, Jason Loughmiller stepped up and stated he and his wife would personally fund the raises, giving all 10 deputies an extra $5,000 a year.
The council approved the deal pending certain legalities.
