Indiana dominated in the first half and cruised to a 79-61 win over Northern Kentucky Wednesday night at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers held the Norse to 16 percent shooting in the first half and outscored NKU 38-14. Trayce Jackson-Davis made 9-of-11 field goals and finished with a team-high 21 points to go with six rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Race Thompson went 7-of-9 from the field and added 14. Rob Phinisee scored 10 off the bench. Northern Kentucky outscored Indiana 47-41 in the second half. The Hoosiers are 10-2 overall and 9-0 at home, and IU closes out the non-conference slate next Wednesday at home against UNC-Asheville.
Notre Dame used a hot shooting afternoon and beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 83-73 at the Joyce Center. The Fighting Irish hit a season-high 16-of-29 3-pointers, led by Dane Goodwin’s 21 points on five treys. Cormac Ryan scored 14 off the bench and made 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Ryan hit two key 3s as part of an 8-0 Notre Dame run with about six minutes to go to put Notre Dame up 10. Blake Wesley contributed 15 points and a career-best nine assists, and Paul Atkinson Jr. added 14 points. Notre Dame improved to 6-5, and the Fighting Irish resume ACC play Tuesday at Pittsburgh.
The Indiana Pacers are back at home Thursday to face Eric Gordon and the Houston Rockets. The Blue and Gold are looking to bounce back after a dismal 29-point loss in Miami Tuesday night. Houston has had an up-and-down season and is currently last place in the Western Conference at 10-22. The Rockets started 1-16 before rattling off a seven-game winning streak. They’ve fallen back to Earth with six losses in eight games, including a 20-point defeat Wednesday night in Milwaukee. Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon is questionable with a sore Achilles after leaving Tuesday’s loss in the first quarter. It’s a homecoming for Indianapolis native Eric Gordon. The 2007 Indiana Mr. Basketball is second on the Rockets in scoring with nearly 15 points per game. The Pacers and Rockets get underway at 7 p.m. Eastern at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The Indianapolis Colts had an NFL-high seven players named to the Pro Bowl Wednesday. Running back Jonathan Taylor had already been named to the game, and will be joined by offensive teammates left guard Quenton Nelson and center Ryan Kelly. On defense, linebacker Darius Leonard, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and cornerback Kenny Moore were honored, as was long snapper Luke Rhodes. Nelson has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first four seasons, and Kelly is a three-time honoree. It marked the most Pro Bowlers for Indianapolis since 2014. The Pro Bowl is scheduled for February 6th in Las Vegas.
