The Daviess County Commissioners approved several contracts at yesterday’s meeting.
The first was a contract with the Daviess County Economic Development Corporation in the amount of $87,500 paid bi-annually. The board also approved a letter of engagement from the county to attorneys at Barnes & Thornburg to assist with the ARPA funds.
In other business, the board approved a 4-year contract with Nexus Group in the amount of $21,500 paid annually. The company performs the county ratio study which provides assessments on current property values and market prices.
Towards the latter half of the meeting, the board spent time discussing the 2022 Daviess County Attorney Contract. Current Daviess County Attorney, Grant Swartzentruber, and Commissioner Michael Taylor worked out an agreement over the last couple of weeks nailing out a flat rate of $50,000/year plus benefits and $200/hour for other services. Commissioner Taylor noted the contract was like that of surrounding counties and the City of Washington. The contract was passed 2-1 with Commissioner Ron Arnold voting opposed. Commissioner Arnold noted he had concerns over clarity concerning billable hours, the total cost, as well as the performance of the current attorney.
