The Indiana Hoosiers fell to Penn State 61-58 Sunday in State College, Pennsylvania. IU missed two 3-pointers in the final seconds which would have sent the game to overtime. Trayce Jackson-Davis was the only Hoosier in double figures and scored 20 points. IU shot just under 40 percent from the field, and made 4-of-17 3-point attempts. Penn State had not played since December 11th due to a pause for COVID-19, and the Nittany Lions improved to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the Big Ten. It was the first conference win for former Purdue and Butler assistant Micah Shrewsberry, who is in his first year at Penn State. Indiana dropped to 10-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Hoosiers host Ohio State Thursday.
Third-ranked Purdue resumes Big Ten play Monday night at home against number 24 Wisconsin. The Boilermakers are 12-1 after closing out non-conference action with a 104-90 win over Nicholls Wednesday night. Freshman forward Caleb Furst is eligible to return after missing the Nicholls win due to COVID-19. The Badgers are 10-2 after hanging on to beat Illinois State last Wednesday. Both teams are 1-1 in conference play, and the Boilers are favored by 12.5 points. Purdue and Wisconsin tip off at 7 p.m. Eastern from Mackey Arena, with coverage on BTN.
Daniel Carlson made a 33-yard field goal as time expired and the Las Vegas Raiders beat the Indianapolis Colts 23-20 Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Indy tied the game at 20 with a 41-yard field goal with just under two minutes to play, and Derek Carr led the Raiders down the field for the game-winning drive. Indianapolis fell behind 10-0, but stormed back to lead 17-13 entering the fourth quarter. Las Vegas took the lead with an 11-yard touchdown pass on fourth and two with over 11 minutes to go. The Colts still control their own playoff destiny. Indianapolis is 9-7 and can clinch a playoff berth with a win against 2-14 Jacksonville in next week’s season finale. Jonathan Taylor rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown, the first time this season that the Colts have lost when Taylor has reached the 100-yard plateau. Taylor broke Edgerrin James’ franchise-record for rushing yards in a season. Carson Wentz returned off the reserve/COVID-19 list and threw for 148 yards and a touchdown.
