Billie graduated from Freelandville High School in 1957. Before retirement, Billie’s years working gave her many exciting stories in her later years. She worked in the office of Dr. Rompf in Sandborn, ran the Dutchman Cafe, worked at the Freelandville mill, and tended countless hours to the Sager farm. Billie was a member of the Freelandville Christian Church, Freelandville Alumni Association, Freelandville Improvement Club, and the Amicus Club. She also enjoyed meeting her friends for coffee every morning for many years.
She is survived by; brother Tom Vance, sister-in-laws Barbara Vance and Wilma Strange, and several nieces and nephews, including Larry (Rebecca) Bland, Susan (Steve) Newberry, William (Rachel) Vance, Martha Jean (Owen) Thomson, Gib (Cindy) Vance, Jr., Dawn (Mike) Magdycz, Carmen (Tim) Horton, Curt (Cathy) Strange, and several great-nieces and nephews, including Kay Bland, Jenna Fritz, Tyler Newberry, Maggie Bland, Ares Ramos, Bridget Bland, and Stuart Thomson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Karen Bland, brother Gib Vance, Sr., and first husband, Roy Brocksmith.
Visitation will be at Freelandville Christian Church, 313 E State Rd. 58, Freelandville, IN 47535, on Tuesday, February 15, from 10:00 A.M. until Noon with a service following the visitation officiated by pastor Larry Schultz officiating, burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery. The family requests that visitors wear masks to the visitation and funeral.
