Stephen Earl Wheeler, better known as “Slider” or “Wildman” of Winslow, Indiana passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022 after reaching the age of 71years old. He passed away peacefully with his two daughters, Stephanie Coleman and Krystal Breeding by his side.
Stephen was born on August 2, 1950 to his mother and father, Delmas Wheeler and Imogene Padgett. Both preceding him in death. February 12 was his mothers birthday, so we find joy knowing he is celebrating with her today.
Steve was blessed with ten siblings. Some were whole, half and step, but if you asked him, they were all his brothers and sisters. Delama Willis, Nickolas Wheeler, Angela Mearling, Richard Padgett, John Horton, Kelly Horton, Beverly Rainey, Pam Harmon, Rhonda Bozikis, and Carrie Meade.
Steve was a wonderful father to Stephanie Coleman/Robert Houchin and Krystal/Curt Breeding. A grandfather to six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
He enjoyed most of his days loving and caring for Rita, and his dog Minnie-lou. Steve was retired from the City of Vincennes trash and recycling department. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 115 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Winslow.
Slider loved to go mushroom hunting and fishing. He came to know Jesus in 2021and was proud to tell his friends of his new relationship. He was a man who didn’t care much of himself but cared a lot for others close to his heart. Steve was strong, proud, and a genuinely good man.
Graveside services for Steve will take place at 1 PM EST on Tuesday, February 15, at Ashby Cemetery in Arthur, IN. Harris Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
