Richard Bond

Richard (Dick) J. Bond passed away at his home in Vincennes Indiana on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at the age of 88.  Those left to treasure his memories are his loving wife and best friend Janet, three children:  Connie (Jim) Bond-Stuart, Rick (Marylynn) Bond, Mary Kay (John) Sanchez and seven grandchildren:   Ryan, Kasey, Taylor, Trevor, Chelsea, Max & Christina.

Dick was born to Starner & Margaret Bond in Oaktown Indiana on June 12, 1933.  He had two sisters that preceded him in death, Mary Elizabeth and Eleanor.  After graduating from Oaktown High School, he went on to attend Purdue University and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.

Following his marriage to Janet in 1954, he began his career working for his dad as a hand on the farm which led to his main business, Bond Farms. Although Dick had many jobs such as farm hand, truck driver, an oiler on a drag line for Green Construction on the Savanah River Project, as a young man in his twenties he began working for Midwest Homes where in time he rose to Vice President of Sales.  His career eventually brought him to Security Bank & Trust as a Branch Manager where his leadership guided him to became President and Chairman of the Board.  Following the acquisition of Security Bank, Dick served as a board member of Old National Bank.

Throughout his life he had many changing interests including:  flying, boating, hunting, fishing, traveling, gun collecting, western art, skiing, and he always enjoyed a good meal.  But his greatest joy over the years came from sharing time with family and friends wherever this took him and Janet.  Some of his favorites were Kentucky Lake, Durango, CO, Naples, FL, but he always felt most comfortable at home or checking on the farm.

Dick also enjoyed being involved in his community and several organizations throughout his life.  He was a member of the Oaktown Christian Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Good Samaritan Hospital Building Association and supporter of the Indiana Military Museum.

If you asked him his “greatest accomplishment” you could expect to hear, “my family, they always come home.”  And those who knew him well would identify with a life philosophy, “You only go around once in life, but if you do it right, once is enough.”
