Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred announced that Opening Day on March 31st has been canceled due to the ongoing owners’ lockout. The league’s owners and players association were not able to come to a new collective bargaining agreement by MLB’s self-imposed deadline of 5 p.m. Tuesday, and Manfred said that the first two series of the season have been canceled. It is the first time baseball has called off games due to a labor disagreement since 1995. The two sides negotiated for 16 ½ hours Monday and into Tuesday, but could not come to an agreement after players rejected what the league called its “best and final offer” Tuesday afternoon.

Colts general manager Chris Ballard and coach Frank Reich both spoke at the NFL’s Scouting Combine in Indianapolis Tuesday. The Colts remain undecided on the future of quarterback Carson Wentz. Ballard said that he will sit down with Reich and team owner Jim Irsay in the next 10 days and do what’s best for the team in the short term and the long term. Reich added that he believes in Wentz, and thinks he is going to continue to have a lot of success at quarterback, but acknowledged that it may not be in Indianapolis. Wentz is guaranteed 15 million dollars next season, and 13 million more becomes guaranteed on March 18th. The 29-year-old quarterback struggled down the stretch in his lone season in Indy, and the Colts lost the final two games to miss the playoffs.
