Area Fire Departments Busy with Weekend Brush Fires

Despite advising residents to avoid opening burning, several fire departments were out dealing with brush fires over the weekend.
The combination of the strong southerly winds and low relative humidity values; along with drying fine fuels from recent warmth and drier weather, led to an elevated fire danger.
The Washington Township Fire Department responded to a brush fire that became out of control on Saturday. Fire crews were able to make a quick knockdown and save a barn with minimal damage.
Also on Saturday, The Haubstadt Fire Territory, Fort Branch Fire Department, and Owensville Montgomery Township Fire Protection District, all responded to multiple field and brush fires. No injuries were reported.
Fire officials again remind residents to avoid opening burning with high wind gusts.
