Trayce Jackson-Davis scored 29 points, and Indiana beat Wyoming 66-58 in the NCAA Tournament’s First Four in Dayton, Ohio. The Hoosiers moved on to the Round of 64 and will play fifth-seeded Saint Mary’s Thursday night in Portland. Jordan Geronimo returned from an injury suffered in the Big Ten Tournament and scored a career-high 15 off the bench. Both teams struggled offensively, and IU went just 2-for-13 from 3-point range. Jackson-Davis added nine rebounds, and the junior forward has scored 20-plus in four straight games. Hunter Maldonando led Wyoming with 21, but also had 10 of the Cowboys’ 19 turnovers.
The Memphis Grizzlies dominated the Indiana Pacers 135-102 Tuesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Grizzlies star Ja Morant did not play due to back soreness, but it did not matter. Richmond, Indiana native Desmond Bane led Memphis with 21, and Jaren Jackson Jr. added 19. The Pacers shot 6-for-30 from 3-point range and were led by Jalen Smith’s 15 points. Indiana is 23-47 and has lost five out of six. The Blue and Gold trailed by as many as 43 in the fourth quarter en route to their largest margin of defeat this season. The Pacers are off until Friday, when they play at Houston.
Notre Dame faces Rutgers Wednesday night in the NCAA Tournament’s First Four in Dayton, Ohio. The winner will move on to take on number six seed Alabama Friday in San Diego. The Fighting Irish are 22-10 and are making their first appearance in the Big Dance since 2017. Rutgers advanced to the Round of 32 last season, in the school’s first March Madness berth since 1991. The Scarlet Knights are 18-13, but have wins over each of the top teams in the Big Ten. The Fighting Irish are favored by a point, with tip off Wednesday night at 9:10 p.m. Eastern on TruTV.
The Indianapolis Colts are signing free agent cornerback Brandon Facyson (Fay-SAWN) to a one-year deal, according to multiple media reports. Facyson started nine games for the Raiders last season, and the 27-year-old reunites with new Colts defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, who spent last season in Las Vegas. The Colts will bring back offensive tackle Matt Pryor on a one-year deal according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Indy also plans to re-sign linebacker and special teams captain Zaire Franklin to a three-year contract, and the team will re-sign defensive end Tyquan Lewis to a one-year deal according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
