Grace Berger scored 15 points, and the Indiana women’s basketball team beat Princeton 56-55 in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in Bloomington. Berger’s layup with 28 seconds left broke a 52-all tie. Ali Patberg stole the ball with four seconds left, and the third-seeded Hoosiers advanced to the Sweet Sixteen for the second consecutive year in front of a crowd of nearly 10 thousand at Assembly Hall. IU improved to 24-8, and the Hoosiers have won five out of six. The Hoosiers will take on number two seed UConn Saturday at 2 p.m. in Bridgeport, Connecticut. UConn made the Sweet Sixteen for the 28th-straight year.
The Indianapolis Colts have their quarterback. The Colts acquired Matt Ryan in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for a third-round pick in this year’s draft. Ryan replaces Carson Wentz, who was traded to the Washington Commanders earlier this month. Last season in Atlanta, Ryan threw for 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions with nearly four thousand yards, as the Falcons went 7-10 and missed the playoffs for the fourth straight season. The 36-year-old has two years remaining on his contract and will cost the Colts nearly 24 million dollars in 2022. Colts GM Chris Ballard said in a statement “We’re thrilled we had a chance to acquire a proven veteran in Matt Ryan who brings tremendous experience to our team.” If he starts the first game of the season, he will be Indy’s sixth different Week 1 starter in six years. Ryan was the number three overall draft pick in 2008, and is the Falcons’ all-time leader in wins, passing yards and passing touchdowns. He ranks among the top-10 in passing attempts, competitions, yards, and touchdowns in NFL history. Ryan was the NFL MVP in 2016, and led the Falcons to a Super Bowl appearance that season. He has been named to the Pro Bowl four times and has missed just three games over his 14-year career.
